Report on domestic sales and exports of plant protection products

Article 64 of the Plant Protection Act requires that manufacturers, distributors and importers of plant protection products report to the BVL (Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety) annual sales in Germany and exports of such products and the active substances they contain. A report is also required for products for which approvals have been granted for parallel trade. The BVL aggregates the data and publishes annual summary reports, which can be retrieved from the margin.

Products distributed after authorisation by the BVL for emergency situations (according to Article 53 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009, before § 11 (2) No. 2 of the Plant Protection Act) did not need to be reported until 2011; the approved amounts of these products were included in the statistics as long as no other information was available.

Exports of formulated plant protection products (even if they are not authorised in Germany) must be reported, but not exports in the form of technical active substances.

As of 2009, the harmonised classification of Annex III of Regulation (EC) 1185/2009 in its latest revision is used for assigning active substances to chemical groups. Data for some groups of active substances are therefore not comparable to previous years. As of 2011, inert gases for storage protection no longer belong to the group of insecticides, but to other plant protection products.
