International Training for Safer Food

First BVL course on Food Safety and Risk Management, July 9-11 2018, Berlin, Germany


For the first time, the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) offers an advanced training course with the topic ,,Food Safety and Risk Management’’.

This introduction to Food Safety and Risk Management on European and national level in Germany will take place from the 9th to the 11th of July 2018 and, therefore, is directly subsequent to the BfR-Summer Academy, organized by the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR).

The BVL course addresses international experts from the fields of food/feed safety and risk management. BVL experts will present the basic principles of food safety and risk management at national and European level.

In addition to the theoretical transfer of knowledge, there will be a practical section during the training course. Participants will visit a food business operator and get insights into the work of the inspection authorities in Germany.

The experts will provide participants with basic knowledge about the following topics in English:

  • Introduction to food safety in Germany and the European Union
  • Networks in the field of risk management (monitoring, control programs and information systems)
  • Overview on authorization procedures and their impact on the risk management
  • Introduction to the Administrative Assistance and Cooperation (AAC) system
  • Site visit of a food business operator and insights into the work of the inspection authorities in Germany
  • Introduction into the work of the National and European reference laboratories
  • Crisis management in Germany and Europe.
