Plant protection products
Critically examined - plant protection products
The BVL is responsible for authorising plant protection products in Germany. In this process, the BVL is responsible for risk management, i.e. for authorisation decisions and administrative measures to protect both humans and the environment. Furthermore, the BVL acts as the national coordination point in the European cooperation to evaluate active substances in plant protection products and to determine maximum residue levels. It lists plant resistance improvers and adjuvants which are permitted in Germany.
Many topics, one goal
Forms & Templates
aThe BVL provides forms and templates for applications for the authorisation of plant protection products. The necessary documents for the application result from Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 and its implementing regulations.
Hazardous substance classification and labelling
In Germany, plant protection products may only be placed on the market if they are correctly labelled.
Efficacy and use
Efficacy studies have to be conducted according to the principles of good experimental practice (GEP) by official or officially recognized testing facilities. If available, guidelines of the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organisation …
Product chemistry
The BVL provides guidance and further information on the assessment of equivalence, specification of technical active substances and other topics related to product chemistry.
Analytical methods for residues
Based on the harmonised EU regulations and guidance documents, the BVL has further speficied the data requirements for representative matrices, analytical methods for food of animal origin and confirmatory methods.
Residues
The assessment of health risks due to the intake of residues is based on data on residues and consumption. The corresponding models are developed and adapted internationally.
Toxicology and safe use
Various population groups are considered in the evaluation of health effects: consumers, operators, workers, residents and bystanders. The BVL explains the respective exposure models.
Environment
A number of models are used to evaluate the entry of plant protection products into surface water, groundwater and other non-target areas. The BVL explains the models and provides links to the software.
Registration mark for plant protection products
The registration mark of the BVL may be printed optionally either on the packaging or on the label of the plant protection product. Sample files of the registration mark can be downloaded.
