Overview of personal protective equipment in plant protection - the BVL PPE Data Collection
With the authorisation of a plant protection product, the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) regularly prescribes the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling plant protection products or for follow-up activities in previously treated crops. The requirements for PPE are described in the BVL guideline "Personal protective equipment when handling plant protection products".
To facilitate the purchase of protective equipment, the BVL has coordinated the publication of an overview of suitable products in cooperation with PPE manufacturers, associations and official institutions:
The BVL PPE Data Collection is categorised into the following elements: Protective suits (reusable / disposable), certified work clothing, long-sleeved aprons, gloves (reusable / disposable). For the individual products, in addition to the name and description of the protective equipment, there is further information on certificates and pictograms for labelling as well as on the manufacturer and, if applicable, on sources of supply.
All products listed in the BVL PPE Data Collection meet the requirements of the BVL Guideline and are thus generally suitable for use in handling plant protection products. If, in individual cases, special protective equipment is required for certain plant protection products, the authorisation holder or distributor of the product will provide information on this in the safety data sheet of the plant protection product.
The BVL PPE Data Collection is a service offered by the BVL. It represents the result of a consultation with manufacturers of PPE. In this respect, no claim of completeness can be made. The BVL welcomes further notifications of suitable products by manufacturers of protective clothing and specialised retailers at PSA-DB-Pflanzenschutz@bvl.bund.de.
