Symposium 2021

Modern Biotechnology in a Changing World: Health, Environment and Regulation

BVL online symposium from 6 to 7 October 2021

Overview

The two-day online program highlights modern biotechnology from different perspectives.

Globalization and climate change are increasingly affecting human existence. In addition to social and economic challenges, sustainable food/ feed production, health care and nature conservation need safeguarding.

At the same time, enormous progress has been made in biotechnological sciences in the last decade. Biotechnology developments create completely new opportunities for medical and agricultural applications and provide possible solutions to address urgent problems as one element of an overall strategy.

On the other hand, safety aspects and arising challenges are an ongoing issue of discussion. Furthermore, inconsistent governance of new biotechnological developments around the world are a growing challenge for global supply chains.

The administrative sector is thus located in an area of tension between governance issues, stakeholder’s interests and consumer protection.

Precaution should not disable innovations. An open-minded discussion between consumer and government actors in the field of modern biotechnology is essential for further progress.

At this year's BVL symposium the latest research will be presented enabling in-depth discussions from different angles. Speakers and participants will explore contemporary challenges, opportunities and solutions, taking into account the scientific and legal background. BVL as a modern risk assessment and management institution is looking forward to welcome all experts, interested participants, partners and stakeholders.

The registration has been closed already but there are a few spots left. If interested, please contact the conference office at symposium2021@bvl.bund.de.
